I met with Katerina at the beautiful Liberty Park, in Lake Mary, FL. Before she arrived, my assistant and I explored the park looking for the best places to shoot. The park was pretty much empty, it was windy and a little spooky.
As usual, I brought a couple of props for possible use. Looking at the beautiful flowers around the park, we thought it would be a good idea to add a couple of flowers to a little chandelier prop. We added the flowers and continued searching for good spots.
Suddenly, we heard the sounds of bees, so we started to walk away from the sound. However, my assistant was wearing shorts and was being attacked by a bee on his legs! We ran away from it, but the stubborn bee kept following us.
Finally, we stopped, thinking it had left, but we could still hear a buzzing sound. I looked over at the little chandelier and spotted the bee flying around the flowers. Realizing that the bee was trying to get the nectar from the flowers we had borrowed from nature, we quickly dropped the flowers on the ground and stubborn bee left us alone at last! This story has nothing to do with the photo shoot but I thought it was funny. I will make sure not to pick flowers at any other shoot!
Once Katerina arrived, we had fun with the prop we were most excited about, the blue smoke bomb. Click the image and press the right arrow to view more.
Then, we tried some levitation shots for our photo shoot. These are not easy to make. The individual who is levitating must pose their body awkwardly while maintaining control of the face and being bodily-aware so it doesn’t look too forced. At the same time, the individual must be careful not to fall, which can be challenging! Katerina did an amazing job with all of those things. My assistant also did a great job. He made sure he was close by just in case she started to fall (which is very common with these type of photo shoots). On the bright side, making these can be a lot of fun and we definitely had a blast! We did levitation poses at different locations but this one was my favorite:
Because Katerina had brought some of her own props too, we combined our ideas to make our vision come to life. Here are a few more form our photo shoot, click the photo and right arrow to view more:
